Classic Cyanotype Chemistry – Sun Printing Made Simple
In 1842, scientist and stargazer Sir John Herschel discovered that a mix of iron salts and sunlight could turn paper a stunning, ocean blue. Thus the cyanotype was born — the original “blueprint” and still a favorite of artists today.
Our Cyanotype Chemistry comes as two 100 ml solutions:
-
Solution A – Ferric Ammonium Citrate — the “sun catcher,” making paper UV-sensitive.
- Solution B – Potassium Ferricyanide — the “blue maker,” bringing those deep Prussian blues to life.
Comes with 2x Pipette / 1x Syringe / 1x 2"Foam Brush
Mix equal parts A + B, brush on paper or fabric, dry, then expose under sunlight with leaves, flowers, or photo negatives. Rinse with water, and watch your image bloom into brilliant blue.
Simple, playful, and a little bit magical — just as Herschel intended.
Supplied in accordance with UK REACH / CLP Regulations.
